The workshop is practical in nature allowing participants the opportunity to understand the physiological signs of death and explores ways of supporting relatives at the time of death.  The importance of support for staff will be explored.

  • Review good practice principles underpinning end of life care.
  • Examine the processes involved in anticipating decline and recognising the dying phase.
  • Explore the guiding principles/procedures involved for registered nurses in verifying expected death within NHS Forth Valley.
  • Discuss the importance of compassionate communication in supporting families around the time of death.
  • Recognise the importance of the need for staff support.
