As an independent hospice, we receive around 38% of our overall funding from the NHS, with nearly £2million from NHS Forth Valley and £569,000 from NHS Lanarkshire. This means that we need to raise a further £12,900 every single day to keep our services running.

At a recent meeting, we were advised that NHS Lanarkshire has committed its entire funding to Kilbryde Hospice in East Kilbride and St. Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie - to the detriment of Strathcarron Hospice and patients in Cumbernauld & Kilsyth. Although we have received funding this year, there is no certainty of this funding continuing beyond 2020 and a risk, that at the very least, NHS Lanarkshire will wish to provide much less funding for our services. We could not continue to provide services in Cumbernauld & Kilsyth for less money and with no financial security as this risks destabilising Strathcarron Hospice as an organisation.

We are aware that GP Emma McPherson has set up a petition on change.org in order to demonstrate to NHS Lanarkshire that this is an unacceptable proposal. This petition is gathering momentum however we want to make it clear to our supporters that money donated via this petition does not come to support Strathcarron Hospice. Money donated will go directly to change.org to help the website continue to operate and to help boost the petition to more people in the area.
