Our kitchen staff at Strathcarron are famous for many things, from (probably) the best empire biscuits in the world, so good they have to be hidden from staff until tea time or they mysteriously disappear, to their wonderful sense of fun and mischief and their ability to rise to any challenge or request presented to them by patients, families or staff. The kitchen caters for patients and staff throughout the Hospice, from the in-patient unit to day care, and provides a varied and delicious array of home cooked dishes to suit all tastes and diets. The team are often presented with complex dietary requirements for patients, whether it be celiac, gluten free, soft diets or fortified meals, and rise to every challenge to ensure healthy and tasty options are available for everyone.

The Hospice goes through over 1,000 teabags every week – that’s a lot of cuppas – and striking the balance with all the healthy options on offer, every day a selection of delicious home baking is produced – from those famous empire biscuits to the special recipe shortbread which has been served to HRH Princess Anne for the past thirty years, there is always a tasty treat on offer for afternoon tea.

Patients, families, volunteers and staff will all attest to the exceptional standard of food at Strathcarron, and we are very proud indeed of all the staff and volunteers who work so hard in the Hospice kitchen and provide that service with a smile!
