I’m fundraising for the fantastic Strathcarron Hospice, doing the Highland Swing that’s now taking place September 2021.

My wonderful Aunty Lilian passed away there in January this year after a brave fight with cancer, which she fought all the way to the end. My grampa Drummond stayed there before he passed away 18 years ago. We miss them both more than words can say.

It costs Strathcarron more than £12,000 PER DAY to run their hospice, which provides end of life care for people like my grampa and Aunty Lilian. End of life Care is given to people who are near the end of their life and have stopped treatment to cure or control their disease. It includes physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support for patients and their families.

The help Strathcarron recently gave my aunty Lilian has been invaluable to my family. When an amazing woman like her becomes ill it affects all of us. We are an extremely close family, full of strong and funny women, and seeing her become ill broke our hearts.

Knowing the level of care that was given to her is a small comfort, and simple things like being able to put her make up on and sit in a proper seat instead of in bed all day are just 2 things which really raised her spirits.

I’ll be doing the Strathcarron 2021 Highland Swing in September for my aunty and grampa as I would absolutely love to give back to Strathcarron on behalf of all our family, as the rest of them Are too feert to do it with me :) Nicola Maxwell
