The last full week before Christmas is usually a hive of activity at the Hospice for all patients, staff and volunteers and a very special time enjoyed by everyone.

Naturally, things are very different this year but that has not deterred the Hospice Daycare Team. There are currently 92 people being cared for in some way or another. Under normal circumstances all these people would attend the Daycare unit for support, advice, therapies, pampering and, most importantly social contact with others in similar situations. Many friendships are forged and it’s a delight for us to facilitate.

Unfortunately this year the annual Daycare Christmas Party will not be taking place under the current restrictions. It’s always a day to remember with festive food, entertainment and a very special performance from the whole Daycare nursing team. For some people in their care this may sadly be their last Christmas to celebrate which is why it is that extra bit special for all involved.

Not to be deterred this year, the nurses have pulled together a day of virtual Bingo and quizzes and maybe even a visit from legendary ‘Fairy Nuff’. Santa hats, decorations and chocolates have all been delivered and everyone is keeping in touch with telephone calls and on video. Much to the delight of the nurses, many people have been sending in decorations to display on the tree.

It’s been a challenging year for everyone and here at Strathcarron the Daycare Team are pulling out all the stops to give their people the opportunity of a little festive cheer this week.
