Many people in their final days of life prefer to be at home with those who are important to them, if at all possible.

The need for Hospice@Home (H@H) across our local communities, is growing. Our service aims to provide practical and emotional support at this crucial time in people's lives, to enable them to stay at home, right to the end.  

They’ll receive the same care in their own homes as they would in the Hospice building and the  Hospice@Home Team work with the District Nursing, social services and others with the aim to provide seamless care and support.

The family have been on an emotional journey since Donald was diagnosed with throat Cancer late last year. He is now being cared for by the Strathcarron Hospice@Home team for end of life care at home.⠀

Marie said, “Donald wants to be at home, is happier here surrounded by family and his own things. I just couldn’t cope without the Strathcarron Hospice@Home team. Their help and support means such a lot. 

Donald also spent some time in the Hospice earlier this year to sort out his medications and his symptoms disappeared. He was treated so well. 

It’s been quite a year for us. It can feel quite a lonely time, but when the Strathcarron Hospice@Home care team come into visit Donald to assess his medications and to check how he is within himself, we also have a good blether. They’re always calm, supportive and so caring and friendly.  

Days can be long and very emotional, but it’s such a weight off my mind that he’s being well looked after, takes so much pressure off me. 

I also have a daughter with a disability living at home. When she turned 30years old the other week, the Strathcarron Hospice@Home team arrived with a card for her! I was overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness.  

I was feeling torn on how to celebrate her birthday, when we are living with such sadness. But they said, I’ve to try and enjoy every day and celebrate life. Thirty is such an amazing milestone in life, so we did. It was a happy family day; one we’ll remember”. 

Our Hospice@Home service is fully funded by voluntary donations. If you can give £5 a month, you'll have paid for a visit from our team by the end of a year.
