We were delighted to meet Aurel who has challenged herself to run the West Highland Way on 3rd September – IN ONE GO! Aurel wanted to complete the challenge in her 40th year and when she learned that she shares her 40th birthday with Strathcarron, she decided to turn the personal challenge into a fundraiser!

Covering 96 miles with an elevation of over 15,000 foot across the route, Aurel has been training all year for this epic challenge and aims to complete within 25 hours, running through the night with support runners and family encouraging her along the way. We wish her all the best for this monumental challenge.

Aurel first took up running back in 2013 when she took part in the Strathcarron 10K. This event has been a favourite in our fundraising calendar for more than 30 years and will again be a virtual affair on Sunday 3rd October. Runners will plot their own 10K route and run anytime between 6am-6pm, recording their run through the fitness app Strava which integrates with our event to show a realtime leaderboard on the day.

We will also award the Paul Canavan Memorial Cup and Schools Shield to the fastest under 16s and school age runners respectively; awards presented by former local MP and MSP Dennis Canavan, in memory of his son Paul who died in Strathcarron in 1989 aged 16. Registration is £10 per person and available at Strathcarron Virtual 10K Race | Strathcarron Hospice
