Strathcarron Hospice's specialist Lymphoedema and Lipoedema team are constantly learning and sharing new research and practices, for the benefit of local people who live with these conditions. Over the past few days, they’ve attended The British Lymphology Society (BLS) conference and hosted a masterclass to discuss diagnosing lipoedema.

The annual BLS conference is for healthcare professionals and others directly involved in the management of lymphoedema.

The masterclass was hosted in the Hospice by Talk Lipoedema, supported by funding from The Scottish Government. Leading the session was Mr Alex Munnoch, a recognised expert in the field, from NHS Tayside and patron of Talk Lipoedema. Working with Scottish Lymphoedema Practitioners Network and Talk Lipoedema, the session was to establish pathways to assist people to have a clearer route through from diagnosis to referral, not just to the lymphoedema clinics which tend to manage the condition, but to the wider multidisciplinary team including third sector resources.

The emphasis is on providing support and resources to empower people living with lipoedema to have the confidence, information and knowledge to self-manage well but also raise awareness of the condition amongst general health care professionals to assist in a better patient journey.

Strathcarron Hospice hosts the only specialist Lipoedema and Lymphoedema clinic in the Forth Valley.
