Volunteering Why volunteer for us Why Volunteer for us Our volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the Hospice and volunteer with us for a variety of reasons including: a patient connection; a desire to make a contribution to the local community and have the satisfaction of knowing that what they have done is really worthwhile; an opportunity to meet new people and build new friendships; a confidence builder; an opportunity to improve their CV; to help them get back into the job market; and for many of our younger volunteers it is also an opportunity to not only do something worthwhile but gain confidence and a reference that can be used for future employment. Volunteers’ talents, experience, humour and hard work enables staff in the Hospice to extend the help offered to patients, relatives and carers and in the shops by helping to raise the funds required to help the Hospice provide the best possible care for its patients. We currently have in excess of 800 Volunteers associated with the Hospice and the shops. Whilst this may seem a lot, our volunteers provide support to suit their personal circumstances whether it is a couple of hours on ad hoc basis or a regular slot within one or more of our many volunteering areas.
