The volunteers are one of Strathcarron Hospices greatest assets; we simply could not provide our care and services without them. Volunteers make an enormous difference both to the viability of the service and they also provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Why Volunteer?

By volunteering at Strathcarron Hospice you can make a real difference. Our volunteers make an enormous difference and by giving up your valuable time and sharing your skills you can help us to support patients and their families. Your talents, experience, humour and hard work all contribute to the unique culture and the atmosphere within Strathcarron Hospice. Volunteering enables you to make a huge contribution to your community and have the satisfaction of knowing that what you have done is really worthwhile.

Many volunteers come to us to gain experience, perhaps to improve their CV or to help them get back into the job market and for many of our younger volunteers it is also an opportunity to not only do something worthwhile but gain confidence and a reference that can be used for future employment.   Many of our volunteers also enjoy the opportunity to meet other people and have a sense of common purpose.

There are many ways to help and whether you are able to volunteer for a few hours once a week or once a month, your time makes a big difference. Each role requires different skills and strengths and there will be a role that is right for you.

What Volunteering Involves?

Volunteering can take many forms and we have volunteers who come in on a very regular basis at fixed times every week or month as well as volunteers who come in on a more informal basis as and when we have a particular task that we need some help with.

We have volunteers in the Hospice itself, in our 15 shops and warehouse and across the community as part of our befriending service.

At the moment we are very keen to recruit volunteers to our Warehouse to help us organise our many charity shops to maximise the income that they can contribute towards the running of the Hospice. The Warehouse is open from Monday – Friday and we need volunteers to help us sort through the donated clothing and stock and ensure that it is sent to the most appropriate shop.

As well as regular volunteering we often need additional volunteers to help with fundraising events. This can include bag packing in supermarkets, stewarding at sponsored walks and runs and helping with collections at our annual Snowdrop appeal. Our Fundraising Department can keep in touch with you and let you know of each event and an opportunity to take part.
