This week our congratulations and enormous thanks to local newlyweds, Mr and Mrs Gordon and Sam Russell who were married on Saturday 25th July.

The lovely couple were married on Crear Beach, just the two of them, with no guests. Apart from their beautiful union, they were also holding on to a precious secret kept from friends and family. In celebration of their special day they chose to ‘Pay for the Day’ at Strathcarron Hospice to cover all services. It is widely known that the running costs, which we need to raise funds for is £12,900 every day of the year. In fact, these costs have risen during Covid-19 to reflect the additional PPE necessary to keep everyone safe.

Gordon, who works for Barrhead Travel in Falkirk, has been very busy over the last year raising funds to reach his Pay for a Day target, and has actually exceeded this by raising more than £13,000 for Strathcarron. He started by doing a gruelling bike ride across the entire UK from Land’s End to John O’Groats over a nine day period. That’s 1004 miles and 65 hours on the saddle! He continued his fundraising with various collections and bag packs and to finally reach his target, he engaged teams of cyclists from around the country to cycle between 50 and 100 miles to jointly replicate the length of the UK.

On behalf of Gordon and Sam our thanks to everyone who supported his fundraising, by way of sponsorship and donations, in particular to Gordon’s colleagues who got firmly behind his effort.

Congratulations Gordon and Sam. Thank you for making your special day our special day too.
