Murray family pay tribute to Roy and Shirley at Dunblane New Golf Club Am-Am event Andy, Jamie and Judy Murray were amongst 250 golfers who took to the course to mark the 40th Anniversary Am/Am Tournament at Dunblane New Golf Club in aid of Strathcarron Hospice. The tournament on 25 June organised by the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane, was poignantly dedicated to the memory of Roy and Shirley Erskine - Judy's mum and dad - who sadly passed away earlier this year. It was a fitting tribute to the couple, as Roy - a former Rotary member - started the tournament in 1986 and was a pivotal organiser of the event for over 25 years, helped by Shirley and other volunteers. Shirley's shortbread on the home baking stall was always a favourite with the golfers and the couple's home overlooked the course. Roy Erskine Andy, a former Wimbledon and Olympic winning professional tennis player and coach who grew up in Dunblane, said: "This is a big year for the Rotary Am/Am, an event which holds a special place in my family's hearts. My grandfather created this wonderful team golf event in 1986 to raise funds for Strathcarron Hospice. "To date it has generated over half a million pounds. "I'm looking forward to taking part along with several members of my family to continue my grandfather's legacy and to help raise much needed funds for a great cause." Claire Kennedy, Strathcarron Hospice Corporate Fundraiser, said: "Our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to everyone, past and present, involved in organising this fantastic event in support of Strathcarron Hospice. The energy, time and commitment put in to organising a day like this is immense and we are so grateful to everyone for their support and contribution to helping us deliver specialist palliative care to people who need it across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth." Gavin Cowan, Dunblane New Golf Club Manager, said: “Dunblane New Golf Club is delighted to host the Rotary AM/AM continuing a proud and long standing relationship with this much loved event. “Founded by club member, the late Roy Erskine, the AM/AM has become a highlight in the calendar bringing together golf community spirit and exceptional hospitality. “This year’s event carries particular poignancy, with Roy’s grandsons Andy and Jamie Murray taking part alongside their mother Judy, creating a truly memorable family connection to the occasion. “The club is honoured to play its part in supporting such a special day, which combines superb prizes with the warm welcome and excellent hospitality for which Dunblane New Golf Club is known. “With a rich history, strong sense of tradition and an atmosphere that celebrates both competition and camaraderie, the AM/AM promises to be another outstanding success." Bill Carmen, Convenor of the Strathcarron Hospice Support Committee, Rotary Club of Dunblane and Bridge of Allan said: “We are delighted to welcome all new and returning teams to the largest fundraising event of our Rotary year. “With your support we have been able to donate over £500,000 to Strathcarron Hospice over the years. “This is a particularly important year as it’s the 40th event. The Am/Am was started by Roy Erskine, who died aged 94 earlier this year, followed by his wife Shirley nine days later. “This tournament is dedicated to their memory. “As always, the Rotary Club is very grateful to all our sponsors, donors and of course the Golf Club, without whose generosity this event could not take place. “Many thanks to the Rotary club members who provide their assistance to enable the smooth running of this event. “The Rotary Club would like to give a special thanks to principal sponsors Arnold Clark, Cromlix, Halliday Homes and Castle View International Holdings Limited.” Published 30 June 2026 Manage Cookie Preferences
