The role of  Strathcarron Hospice Community Builder's role is to find and connect people in their local communities.

The main way of finding and connecting people in the community is to have conversations, both in real life and via a variety of social media platforms.

Natural conversations happen in an unplanned way allowing us to find out what people are passionate about.

Meet, Nancy from Killin. She has been incredibly busy making these beautiful pieces of jewellery by hand over the past few months.

Her plan was always to sell them locally, with all proceeds going to her local Hospice. In her eighties and living with Parkinson’s, Nancy’s creative talent is obvious. We believe that her Christmas gift stand was sold out pretty quickly!Building and creating something can be very therapeutic, whether painting, drawing, sculpting, jewellery making or fabric arts, it really can improve a sense of wellbeing. Being in an around her community, building connections is everything.

Our approach at Strathcarron has developed, and the power dynamic has changed – it’s about understanding what is strong, not what is wrong in communities.

We believe community development has helped Strathcarron Hospice put communities at the heart of our efforts, to support people to live well right up to the end, not as passive recipients, but as active producers of their own well-being.
