Two generous local businesses have funded new essential equipment for Strathcarron Hospice community nurses to help support patient care.

Tillicoultry Quarries and William Grant & Sons funded 17 Pulse Ox's (funded by William Grant & Sons) 17 thermometers and 17 blood pressure monitors (funded by Tillicoultry Quarries) to allow the Clinical Nurse Specialists to monitor patients at home and make swift, informed medical interventions where necessary.

This donation allowed the full team to receive new pieces of equipment from the NHS which meet national requirements and complete their equipment toolkit when outside of the Hospice.

Strathcarron’s Clinical Nurse Specialists provide specialist care and support to people across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld & Kilsyth living with life limiting conditions including cancer, neurological conditions, heart and lung failure and sometimes multiple conditions at once.

The team of 17 visit patients in their own homes so require their own equipment to take out to patients' homes to monitor their condition, assess any changes in their health and if necessary make referrals to GPs, Consultants and specialist teams.

Claire Kennedy, Strathcarron Hospice Corporate Fundraiser, said: “We are grateful to Tillicoultry Quarries and William Grant & Sons for these generous donations. Support from our communities is vital to ensure we can continue to provide specialist palliative and end of life care and support, enabling patients to live and die well.

“This generous donation allows staff to be working with the most up to date equipment possible when in our communities supporting patients and their loved ones.”

A Tillicoultry Quarries spokesperson said: ‘Tillicoultry Quarries is delighted to provide support to the Clinical Nurse Specialist team at Strathcarron Hospice.  We hope that the new equipment will support the excellent work the CNS team already do in providing specialist care and support to people across the local community living with life limiting conditions by making it easier to monitor and care for patient in their own homes’.
